The Effects of the Self-Help Meeting on Self-Efficacy and Knowledge and Attitude of Smoking in Nonsmoking Clinic

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the self-help meeting on self-efficacy and knowledge and attitude of smoking in nonsmoking clinic.

Method: The quasi-experimental study was designed using single group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the study were composed of thirty smokers. The progressive self-help meeting was carried out in groups of 15 persons for eight weeks period from June to July in 2007. Data was collected before and after the intervention and collected data was analyzed by means, %, paired t-test with SPSS/PC+.

Result: The self-help meeting was effective in increasing the score of self-efficacy for smokers. The self-help meeting was effective in increasing the scores of knowledge and attitude of smoking for smokers.

Conclusion: It is concluded that the self-help meeting was a useful nursing intervention in oder to persist the nonsmoking for the smokers.
